I've been reading up on Boomkin gear. Fortunately the best gear around the traps is crafable through my speciality of tribal leatherworking. The downside is the leatherworking is rather nasty to level.
Sooo, i figure ill do some quest completion and gather a reasonably good set of boomkin gear. There really isnt much around in the way of heroic drops etc for boomkin, but i'll need the rep for the patterns to finish my leatherworking off.
There does seem to be some pretty decent blues that will suffice. I am not sure though as to whether to respec now and use the moonglade set as that has no +dmg on it on +heal, or to gather a decent blue set of +dmg gear and then respec.
Anyone have any thoughts, is respeccing before i have the gear fairly pointless? |

hehehe an issue i'm all too familar with... and that's gear!
The way I've geared myself, was to pimp myself out as a resto healer, running many instances, and picking up all the mail gear i could get my hands on.
If you've got tank gear/healer gear, just start running stuff, and rolling on all the +dmg leather (or cloth) that you see.
Kaza is also a LWer - so ask to see what he can craft. Also PVP gear can be used to fill the gaps where gear is not available
p.s. (i'd say 550ish minimum +dmg to start. At least 800ish +dmg for people to fear you) - gladiator mace will help or lower city mace |

Pick up some +dmg cloth aswell. I've got around +650 dmg from mostly leather gear, but probably 2-3 cloth items too. And if you can't find what you need, a pure +int item ain't all bad. PvE speak, of course.
PvP... well it helps to hide in a bush and pretend you're a space chicken..
and then..
BOOM! |

Yah ive been reading up the gladiator gear is up there almost all around. The crafted gear is the best and aside from that almost all of the next best stuff is quest reward gear. I've got a little bit of it now but im gonna have to lean on a few peeps to get some group quest action out of the way.
Should be boomable in no time. With enough enchants etc on the gear i should be able to get myself to a reasonable level.
There really isnt too much stuff around the traps. There is a nice drop of attunmen which is handy which is pure boomkin. A good staff from curator which will be heavily contested.
Still almost all is +heal +dmg which means can always perform as an OH aswell as a DPS which is sorta handy. Weird getting used to avoiding hits ... been in there in the thick of it for a long time now, its sorta fun staying away from trouble. Alot more time to bail if things get nasty. Basically i can nail most anything i can entangle. Its the fellas that are immune to that which cause me some grief.
Need to work out which is the most mana efficient DPS form. spamming wrath, or spamming starfire. My talent tree is almost entirely balance.
Oh well, ill keep chugging along and see what happens, its sorta cool looking out for new forms of gear. Anyway if the DPS never really makes it i can always join Tree in the healing stakes. |

You just need to remember that moonfire is your No 1 dps output, but least efficient, wrath maybe second, starfire third. The balance between whether to use wrath or starfire spam depends on your % crit. I generally use wrath spam around 20-25% crit. i think.
Yeah the beat gear is from pvp. There are tidbits from instances, but most wtfpnage comes from arena's and bg's gear. You may also be surprised to know that you can wtfpwn warlocks easier than most other classes too. |

Unfortunately being a off healer in DPS gear is quite mana draining
As an elemental shammie, I come across this problem heaps!
On paper having +dmg/heal gear is good - but when crap happens and you start off healing, just know you have a limited time span in which your effective.
Sometimes its better to keep zapping, and hope u finish the boss off, instead of healing to keep the tank up
Trinket wise - at a low level, I highly recommend Shaffar's Nexus Horn (normal mana tombs). Also Quag's Eye from heroic SP is great! (+dmg and +haste) |

It aint to big thing ... as a boomkin i can lay a bit o melee down and regain some mana after i used up my inervate of course.
Should be fun. I'm looking forward to running a few instances and seeing how i go. I was struggling a bit last night getting used to being a DPS caster again. It's been a while since i ran around with my mage in anger.
Realistically it wont take me long to get the right gear. Seriously alot of the top end gear for boomkin is fairly easily accessible then there's a great big void until the gladitor and top end crafted stuff. So i should get him ok in not too long. Whack some enchants on and then wait until a get my skills up to the required level. Its gonna be a slow old grind to the top of leatherworking. |

Hmmm pants pants pants. It appears that in order equip myself when on the legs im heading into cloth territory.
I got a couple of options here, as pants are about the most forlorn things for a boomkin after gloves.
I could farm my little butt off again and get the spellstrike pants. This is looking the most likely thing to do.
There is drop in opera for some pants too which are quite nice. Which ever comes first i guess.
Shoulders, its the gladiator stuff or die by the looks of things.
Boots, i need 30 more EOS tokens and they are sorted.
Head ... well of course malorn is the key here. But we gotta see if we can get ourselves regularly hitting up prince or not. Otherwise i may have to go spellstrike here too.
Weapon ... well the merciless glator staff is by far the gun of choice. The one from Curator in the meantime would be the most obvious option.
Cloak the one from the heroic badges would appear to be the go.
And a possible trinket upgrade is again the one from the heroic badges instead of Quagmirran's Eye. I quite like the eye though. When this procs at the same time as drums of battle, dear god i crank out a few spells.
This is as far as i am aware the best config i am gonna get without stepping into Gruuls.
So its EOS, farming for spellstrike, Kara, and Arena for me. |

Zul!
Read the 2.3 patch notes Cec posted. In the next patch, they're going to make 1/3rd of yours +healing into +dmg. So 1600 +heal = +480 dmg. |
