This is for Sniper/Reiji, and any hunter who might be curious about some of the different hunter builds that I've given a go.
These are template builds which I modify slightly each time I respec depending on what it's for and playstyle. Happy to get some feedback.
41/20/0 Beast Master Raid/PVP
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cVbG0gxRVusoVxbRV
Shot Rotation:
- Burst DPS (aka 1:1 rotation) Steady-Auto-Kill Command. Repeat
- Max DPS (aka 1:1 rotation) Steady-Auto-Kill Command. Repeat[/b]
- Boss DPS (aka 1:1 rotation) Steady-Auto-Kill Command. Repeat[/b]
- hehe, so basically, you only need 1 rotation. 1:1 will do more in the same time that an aimed short-arcane etc will do.
- Don't use serpent sting. For the 1/3 the mana cost and the same GCD time cost, steady shot will do more dmg.
Weapons:
- 2.7-2.8 Speed with 15% Quiver. Faster is better with Serpents Swiftness.
1. Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle (Better than Sunfury in this spec)
2. Don Santos' Famous Hunting Rifle
Notes:
- BW and Intimid for Arena/PVP
- Mortal Shots for big crits
- GFTT, Focused Fire, Beastial Disc and Serpent's Swift all for increasing pet dps and caster interruptions. Through high focus regen and fast attack speed. Use a high focus dumping pet like a windserpent, cat, ravager and make sure they learn cobra reflexes.
- Aimed Shot, Rapid Fire and Mortal Shots are for boosting Raid dps. Relies on mainly using aimed+steady+auto+steady+auto+aimed shot rotation. (As opposed to weaving in arcane)
- Imp Hunter's Mark and Ferocious Inspiration are what buffs you bring to the raid party, at a slight cost to personal dps
- Imp Mend Pet and Imp Revive is for PVE, so that I can be lazy and revive pet in 4secs with very little mana =P
Tactics:
In PVP, essentially you send in your pet first to eat face and just keep popping imp mend pet. Sit back, and drop mana stings, auto shot, concuss to keep em in place. The idea is to try outlast them out and keep em slowed down so your pet can do the work. Intimid is useless as an interrupt cos it's next successful attack, save it till they're at 10% to finish them off.
If they close the gap and snare/fear you, then trinket, snake/frost trap, wing clip and run. If they get you a 2nd time, then use BW. After that....you're outta tricks :p
In Raid. Turn off growl and send em in. You need to do this otherwise Ferocious Inspiration won't proc, but just be VERY VERY on the ball with where you pet goes. if he gets feared pop BW and bring him back otherwise you're gonna get a whole lot of hate from your group. Shot rotation on bosses is mostly rapid fire: steady shot, auto, aimed shot, steady + kill command whenever it comes up etc. I've seen my pet crit kill command for 500+ and on some mobs it has done about 25% of my dps and been a distant 3rd (but still 3rd nonetheless) on DamageMeters.
You'll last ages. On trash mobs, go all out. arcane+auto+multi+auto+steady. |

This is a fun build. It's got crazy max personal dps and crit together. I read in the WoW forums where someone actually bothered to do the math that this is the highest personal dps spec for a hunter. Higher than full 41+ points in marks. Reason being - CRITS!
0/31/30 Hybrid MM/SV Raid
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cZVVVoVzGhoZIhhG0cMhG
Notes:
- Raid oriented but sucks at PVP.
- Clever traps and Resourcefulness mean you are a CC machine. You can ice trap all day long. Even 2 targets at the one time for a while.
- TSA, Barrage, Mortal Shots and Killer Instincts are what boost your crit and RAP to maximise dps.
- Efficiency and Imp Arcane shot means that arcane shot is pretty cruicial to your shot rotation.
Strat:
Raid. Not much really, just stand there and shoot! Figure out what your best shot rotation is. It will probably be steady+auto+arcane+auto+multi+auto cos of imp arcane and barrage.
PVP (See below). Basically same as standard MM. Just kite! |

This is my personal flavour of MM, which may differ from a few ppls MM specs. It has the all the usual raid talents all the way down to silencing shot for arenas.
MM is the WTFPWNzer DPS spec for hunters. 3k+ aimed shots are possible on cloth, but kiting is a must.
0/49/12 MM Raid/Arenas
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=mZVtVoEzhestIh0R
Shot Rotation:
- Max Burst DPS: Aimed Shot-Steady-Multi-Auto-Arcane-Auto
- High DPS (aka. Max Specials Rotation): Steady-Multi-Auto, Steady-Arcane-Auto, Stead-Auto. Repeat
- Steady boss DPS (aka. 1.5:1 Rotation): Steady-Steady-Auto, Steady-Auto. Repeat
Weapons:
- 2.9-3.0 speed with a 15% Quiver. Slower is better.
- Best Kara-level weapons are:
1. Sunfury Bow of the Phoenix
2. S2/S1 Gladiator Weaps
3. Steelhawk Crossbow
4. Wrathtide Longbow
Notes:
- Your top stats are AP/Hit/Crit. Need 9% +hit
- Main difference to the cookie cutter 3/49/9 build is that opted for Clever Traps instead of Imp Hawk for better CC in instances.
- Careful Aim and Master Marksmen mean your DPS is biased towards AP. Stack AP, more AP and some more AP
- PVP. Scatter shot and silence are your interrupts.
Strategy:
PVP = KITE KITE KITE. DPS in between and interrupt heals!
This is one of the harder specs to PVP in cos it relies on you having pretty good knoweldge of your skills as well as your opponents. One rule here. Keep em out of your Deadzone! This is more important to a MM than any other spec hunter.
PVE = KITE. Your pet is basically useless and I actually don't even bother to have it out cos it just gets in the way. You will pull agro from it after one shot.
So open by laying down an ice trap, then aimed shot, arcane and multi. After trap hits, repeat. Follow with concuss and stings to finish up.
DPS. You have pretty crazy burst from this spec. Serpent Sting + Aimed Shot + Arcane + auto + Multi is your shot rotation. If they crit you can easily unload 10k damage in the first 10 seconds. |

This is my current spec. This is a very fun but slightly challenging spec I reckon for a hunter. I'm still working out the kinks in this build
0/21/40 Survival Arena/Raid
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=mZVi0RVzZMhhGpc0uizi
Shot Rotation: (Same as MM)
- Max Burst DPS: Aimed Shot-Steady-Multi-Auto-Arcane-Auto
- High DPS (aka. Max Specials Rotation): Steady-Multi-Auto, Steady-Arcane-Auto, Stead-Auto. Repeat
- Steady boss DPS (aka. 1.5:1 Rotation): Steady-Steady-Auto, Steady-Auto. Repeat
Weapons: (Same as MM)
- 2.9-3.0 speed with a 15% Quiver. Slower is better.
- Best Kara-level weapons are:
1. Sunfury Bow of the Phoenix
2. S2/S1 Gladiator Weaps
3. Steelhawk Crossbow
4. Wrathtide Longbow
Notes:
- Designed to get scatter shot from the MM tree for arenas
- Your top stat is always Agi. You need crit to make this work.
- Seconday stats are AP/Hit. You're hit cap is 6% because of Surefooted
- Easily the most mana efficient tree if you have alot of crit with Thrill of the Hunt
- Personal dps comes from MTac, Mortal Shots and max crit from Killer Instincts
- Raid party buffs come from EW, Imp Hunters Mark
- Resourcefulness and Clever Traps give me extra utility and are a safety net for raiding when ppl break traps or mobs resist :S
- Only put 2 points in Imp Hunters Mark and 5 in efficiency. Not sure if this was the right decision but SV spec's are the most gimped with mana. |
