This is a discussion around the merits for and against speccing for the team. It is sort of a follow on from a comment made by Zul in a different thread. In essence when we are working at dropping bosses and struggling to squeeze every last drop out of ourselves to get the win, what should/could/would we be expecting of each other it terms of selfless specs?
There's a couple of points here. No.1 i can lose my trees and threat reduction and gain +3% to hit with mellee and ranged for the team. The shammies ... and at one point we had 3 of them in the raid could get the end enchancment talent and get +3% hit for all casters (the substantial DPS body in this particular case ... not always i might add) in their group, they would sacrifice NS for themselves in the process.
There are numerous other examples of what people could do to spec to empower the group alot better ... however my question is ... should they?
We have been raiding a bit lately and i think for the most part people are having fun. We're having the usual issues around too many peeps wanting in, but hell thats mostly cause we're actually succeeding and its worth while going raiding with IV as there's drops to be had. (take that prince ya beeatch ... but i digress)
Most of us a casual and enjoy a giggle and like to do whatever makes us feel all warm and fuzzy whatever the hell that is. Some of us take the hit for spec changes (bubble, tree, major) when it is needed for raids however it is questionable as to whether the best raid spec is chosen or simply the best role spec for that individual's play style.
My thoughts are we dont raid hard enough to corner people in a raid spec so they suck at PvE or PvP. However, i believe the teams for the hard fights should still be picked on the merits of who brings what to the crew, so there's a subtle advantage to being raid specced. Respeccing costs a bomb ... but stick it in your butt, try being a tank for a while and check your balance sheet out
So should we be looking for people to spec more for PvE than PvP, more hit than crit come Sunday nights or shall we leave people to thier own devices and see what happens in the long run? |

Its a good point, and defintely raises questions about many things about our raids.
However, I for one like to keep things simple - and I reckon it all comes down to the fact that we are not a hardcore raiding guild, and I dont think anyone here really wants to be (the 2am Prince hits were bad enough).
Rename the topic "respeccing for the team!" - and i'm there _________________ Cecepel - 70 Mage

Some good points there bash....
However I will never force anyone to respec - sure i might do a guilt trip or a bit of 'gentle' arm twisting, to get ppl to tank or heal but i'll not force stuff on peeps.
However there is merit in having correctly raid spec'ed people in the group.
But I don't see us at that stage yet. If we ever start hitting SSC, then perhaps we'll explore this path, but as it stands we sub people in and out too much for any sort of solid spec to be realistic
e.g. one day i might be in the caster group, the next day I could be in the MT/melee group.
For sure we'll stick em in groups that are suitable if they spec that way. If you like the next time i respec, i'll bring out my 3% hit / crit totem and we can experiment if it really makes a valuable difference. _________________ Need more sleeeep.....oh LF1M Shaman scholo....me me me!
