and for those who are using Internode as their ISP check out their efforts to fix ping rates - I am not with them so can't verify how weel this works (Internode users can also just use the registry hack instead of course)

From Internode...

Oceanic servers - Internode WoW Gateway trial

Good news for players using Internode, a temporary fix for lag has been published and seems to works well for most of the players. (Ping lowered from 450ms to 250ms)

- You can check the Howto on Internode forums (http://games.internode.on.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=132915)

As mentioned - I can't test this out but would be interested to find out how well this works if anyones using Internode.

- There are also a lot of feedback posts on Whirlpool.net.au forums (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=872425&p=1), as well as a few Internode representatives posting here. (Like this post from Simon Hackett (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=872425#r14) giving some details about it)

I have been seriously toying with the idea of moving from Stormreaver and getting back to leveling - with the new increases in XP gain in Azeroth it would make sense to get back to the grind - getting from 46->58 and Outland should be a breeze..still leveling my Gnome mage whos at 64 right now - but I only get on him when theres a full level of rested XP - time to get back to alternating characters.

hm ...maybe i'll move him to Barthilas tonight ..even if its just to idle for a little longer Very Happy

Then we'd have to hunt you down and kill you Sad

Roll a horde toon, and we'll drink mead while camping batches of gnomes, squid faces, and dwarves all day long Smile It'll be glorious!

i've tried a mate's account from a different provider http://www.lowerping.com/ which costs like $7AU a month. It works!
I was getting a flat 250ms all day. I'm thinking of splitting it with him and only using it for raids/pvp :p

Be cautious of these solutions for the following reasons:

The "lowerping" and internode solutions of using SSH tunneling to bypass QoS rules for outside traffic works great - the traffic appears to come from the US and isnt throttled by QoS, therefore resulting in less latency.

The problem with this is that Blizzards own powerleveing busting software detects that your account is being used in a different country then where it originated from, therefore banning you in the process as it looks like you are using a powerleveling service/goldmaking service etc. (few posts on the WoW/Internode forums already about this)

This really is a Blizzard problem, and hopefully will be fixed up (though probably not soon)

The registry hack trick really isnt something I would recommend playing around with.

It basically modifies the TCP ACK transmission so that TCP doesnt wait for a response before sending the next packets. This is good for lowering your ping, but sending data through is another story.

So your in game ping may look alot lower and stay in the green, but your actual latency will most likely get much worse as packets arent received and have to be resent (as the receiving server will send a retry request).
