PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2007 3:41 am    Post subject: Min Gear Requirements for Kara Reply with quote

Was doing a bit of reading on my Sunday off and found a little post on WoW forums to do with min gear for Kara. It kinda makes sense that since we've only got 10 men per run, that in order to make it work, we get the right geared people for the right roles.

One of the quotes was to do with having the right gear before starting Kara:

"That being said, Blues cut it when starting MC, Blues cut it now starting Kara. You would have been laughed at showing up for MC in greens, the same will happen now. Kara is a fun, diverse instance that is easily obtainable for almost any guild, just don't be idiots about it."

Which makes sense. Some suggestions for structure are:

1 MT
1 OT
2 Main Healers
1 Off healer (could also be main healer if needed)
5 DPS (consisting of at least 2 cc capable classes, eg a hunter)

Somewhere in there, at least 1 priest!! (DPS or healing)

Where:
MT/OT -
----------------- (warrior/druid tank)-----------
490 defence+, 10k hp unbuffed 11k+ armour
(although, some reckon druids should be hitting over 15k armour, and i agree with them).

Healers -
-------------------Druid (healing)---------------
1000 +healing, 100 regen in combat, 7500 mana unbuffed
------------Priests (healing) -------------
1250 +healing, 100 regen in combat, 7500 mana unbuffed
------------Pally (healing) --------------------------
900 +healing, 80 regen, 8k mana unbuffed
------------Shaman (healing) --------------------------
900 +healing, 80 regen, 8k mana unbuffed

DPS -
-----------------------Warlock------------------
500+spell dmg, 5%+spell hit,
----------Mages (and s.priests and boomkins)---------
550+ spell dmg, 5%+spell hit, 15%+ crit
------------Rogue----------
1100+ ap, +8% hit, 24 crit, perferably a pair of 71 dps weapons.
--------------Hunter-------------
1800 Attack Power, 5% +Hit, 18% +Crit
-------------- shammy--------------
They didnt specify, but probably +500 dmg for elemental, or some good +ap gear for enchance.

Most of this gear should be available from 5 man instances that everyone can go to. On Tree, as a healer, i have +1024 healing, 9.2k mana. As a tank I have 13.2k armour and 14.6k hp. I'm an undergeared tank (ie, it's better that i don't tank), but a geared enough healer for Kara Smile

In the interest of sanity, i'd ask that you run instances as to get your gear high enough so that when we run we don't contually wipe due to lack of dps/healing/etc. Smile

Those are midly large mins but as a note

For druids because htey have survival of the fittest talent they require a little less defence.

Its all about getting the -5% to crit (Melee or both).
15k armor 25% dodge in bear and ~10k life

Woot! Thanks for the BM run last night Bash, Pugga, Anne and Syle.
From a hunter perspective those stats look pretty fair. You would need to be pretty all blues with some enchants to be getting those stats.

Wilbo's sitting on 1800RAP, +5.18% hit and 22% crit atm.

Once I finish my axe tonight and get revered with CE to get the [Glyph of Ferocity] head enchant. So by the end of the week I should be looking close to 1900RAP and 23% crit Very Happy

While i agree in principle that 900+ heal is the bare minimum a main healer shammie should have, i disagree with the 80 regen. You'd want 120 200ish minimum (around 225 -240) and your golden!

Shamans suck balls at healing efficentcy, and if you blew both mana tide & mana pots, your relying on your MP5 to survive. With 120 mana, your looking at 2 ticks before u can cast a life saving lesser healing wave. With 225ish you can cast lesser healing waves at regular intervals even when oom. Ask bash about my crazy 2nd boss of shadow lab encounters - we downed him after like 6-7 mind control sessions.... and i was down to MP5 and trinkets to survive.

And 500+dmg for an elemental shaman is a tad high. With 500+dmg, your going to be topping the dmg meter. As a "Minimum", i'd suggest 400 with at least 10-14% crit from gear (another 10% coming from talents to lighting spells) - well above 20% is what your aiming for, to have any form of sustainable casting with elemental focus giving you a free spell per crit(which is going to be nerfed in the next patch! gg blizz)

Not too sure about enhancement, but again i found +1100 AP & 20% crit to be where the magic starts to happen (you will need alot more +hit though)

Thanks Major, been a long while since I've played a shammy Wink

The 80 regen is "while casting" regen, not out of combat Wink I think that probably equates to 200+ non casting, depending on mp5 gear vs spirit/talents.

Oh I guess that I may as well clarify abit for the hunters too then. Those numbers look to me like Marksment spec numbers. Possibly weapon damage might be a better indication than RAP, since Beast Mastery hunters have lower RAP but higher attack speed to compensate.

1) Beast Master Spec: 1500+ RAP, +5% hit, 18% crit (290+ DPS weap dmg)
2) Marksmen Spec: 1800+ RAP, +5% hit, 20% crit (275+ DPS weap dmg)
3) Survival Spec: 1600+ RAP, +5% hit, 23% crit (265+ DPS weap dmg)

As a request, could hunters please consider putting some points into talents in their specialised tree which give group buffs, and not just improve individual dps. Don't waste points in buffs from the other trees since they won't stack.

1) Beast Master Spec: Ferocious Inspiration (Apart from Intim, BW, TBW etc)
2) Marksmen Spec: Imp Hunters Mark, Trueshot Aura
3) Survival Spec: Expose Weakness, Clever Traps, Resourcefulness and Wyvern Sting (mostly imp CC)

We should also have one of each spec to get the most outta group buffs.
I'm currently a Marks, and I know Syle and Pam are both BM.
I'd be happy to respec to survival, if one of the other hunters will go Marks.

I fail at WoW. Niether Anne or Shady meet requirements lol.

Anne
+1011 heals (-240) --> easy to fix with enchants, tho my gear is undeserving lol
8145 mana (+645) --> shed a little int
64mp5 (-36) --> sacrifice some int for mp5/spirit, but I'm fairly short here Sad

Shady
+1579ap (+479 0_0) --> rofl, shed some ap for crit apparently
17.87%crit (~-6) --> not sure I have the spare crit gear to fix this >.<
6.85%hit (-1.15) --> easy fix

Got some work to do. Unfortunately don't have enough faction for some of the rep rewards that would help, especially with Anne. Who would bother having 2 toons >.<

I suppose if the list is just a guide, either will be usable, but I'd rather be above than below the line lol.

lol shady. I think priests have it tougher because their healing gear has very high +heals on it. I've always thought about what +heals i'd have if I chose to collect the priest/cloth gear rather than the druid healing set Smile (druid healing set includes +agil/str.. rather redundant most of the time!)

And yeah, I reckon if you werent playing 2 70 chars at the same time, and you chose 1, it'd probably be the best geared character of the lot of us!

Not sure on the kitty form, probably somewhere around 2k ap, 20%+ crit, and some +hit% would be a good start!

Just had to quickly post this - the patch buffed a number of druid items, and now.... i'm a proper tank!!!!

unbuffed: 13.2k hp (lost 1k), armour... 18k! That's a 63.06% DR. Self-buffed, 14k, 18.5k armour - 63.69% DR. 406 defence Smile

healing is up too with extra gear bits.. +1079 heals, 9.9k mana pool. (spirit dropped a bit though)... should be breaking 1140 after the next arena's item Smile

Woot! This hunter has finally grown up. I've finally hit the magic 2000+RAP mark Very Happy

What does this mean? Well, that maybe you might actually catch a glimpse of me on the damagemeters somewhere in between all those damn mages and warlocks.....maybe

Last night in Heroic SP, I managed to pull off 1.6k in white damage!
Can't wait to test this in BG's, I reckon I could prolly aimed shot clothies for 4k+ now
